Blue Streak Spirit

Crew competes at Head of the Cuyahoga
On Saturday September 20th the JCU crew team started its fall season at the Head of the Cuyahoga Regatta.   The Blue Streaks competed against crews from Michigan State, University of Toledo, Cleveland State and Duquesne on a challenging course in downtown Cleveland. The novice women participated in their first race after just two short weeks of practice. The varsity women’s four finished 7th out of ten boats, defeating Toledo and two Case boats.

The men’s open eight was the highlight of the day as the sophomore coxswain Alex Weber guides the men to a second place finish. JCU finish just ahead of a strong Michigan State boat and rivals Case and Cleveland State. The men later participated in the open four event where the two JCU boats finished 4th and 5th out of 11, again beating Michigan State, Toledo, Case and South Niagara.

The varsity women will be traveling to Boston to compete in the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta on October 18th while the entire team prepares for the Speakmon Regatta in Columbus, OH on October 25th. Now is a great time to join the team so contact head coach Chris Maeder (cmaeder03@jcu.edu) for more information.
