165-pounder Devon Jurczak started a run of four consecutive wins for John Carroll against Muskingum
John Carroll broke open a close match by dominating the upper weights in a 26-16 victory over Muskingum in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet Tuesday night in New Concord, Ohio.
The Blue Streaks trailed after five matches, 13-11, thanks in large part to forfeiting the 141 weight class. The Blue Streaks and Muskies split the first four actual bouts, with
Elie Naoum (Solon, OH, Solon)recording a pin at 125 and
Daniel Mizener (Mason, OH, Mason) posting a technical fall at 149 for the 11 John Carroll points.
Momentum shifted once again in the 165-pound match-up.
Devon Jurczak (Clinton Township, MI, Chippewa Valley) earned a hard-fought 7-3 decision over Mitch King, which was followed by a 6-1 victory by
Travis Hammer (Lancaster, NY, Lancaster) against Mike Frasure.
Ben Adams (Livonia, MI, Winston Churchill) and
Matt Harmon (River Forest, IL, Fenwick) put the match away with strong efforts. Adams recorded a technical fall at 184 pounds over Dan Dunn by an 18-1 count.
Harmon came up with one of the most impressive wins of the night. He registered a 9-1 major decision over Todd Neptune, who was 13-3 overall and undefeated in league matches entering the match. His win gave John Carroll an unsurmountable 26-13 lead.
Muskingum would tack on a win at 285 for the final three points of the match.
John Carroll is now 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the OAC, while Muskingum fell to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the OAC. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Blue Streaks.
