JCU head coach Regis Scafe will be a member of the Stars & Stripes coaching staff in an all-star football game to be played this December in Mexico
John Carroll University football head coach regis Scafe has been selected to be a part of the United States coaching staff that will mentor a team of NCAA Division III all-stars in the 2009 Tazón de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars), to be played on Saturday, December 19 on the Tec Monterrey Campus Estado de Mexico located near Mexico City.
Global Football has reached an agreement with the Tec de Monterrey Universities in Mexico to stage this all-star game. A traveling group of 50 players, 8 coaches and support staff will practice at the Tec Monterrey facility near Mexico City from December 14 to 18 and will also visit the Aztec Pyramids and the nation's capital before facing their Mexican opponents on Saturday, December 19.
Former La Salle, Delaware Valley College and Widener head coach Bill Manlove will coach team Stars & Stripes and will select a 50-man roster from players nominated by head coaches at NCAA Division III colleges. Scafe will be one of eight current and former Division III coaches who will make up Manlove's staff.
Now in his 12th season as head coach at John Carroll, Scafe has a record of 71-36 and has posted 11 consecutive seasons at .500 or better for the Blue Streaks. Scafe has helped John Carroll extend its current run of consecutive non-losing campaigns to a school record 22 years.
Since he began his tenure at John Carroll, Scafe has had over 20 players earn All-American accolades, and over 70 have been named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference teams, including seven (Tom Rini,
Matt Payne, Jeff Lerner, Chris Cubero, Victor DeBoer, Doug Phillips, Carlo Melaragno, and Michael Nettling) who have been named the OAC Player of the Year at their respective positions.
