John Carroll turned a tie match into a rout with a strong final two games in defeating Wilmington College Saturday afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest held in Wilmington, Ohio.

The Blue Streaks won the first game handily by a 25-17 count, but a resilient Quakers squad would stun JCU in the second frame, 28-26.

Game three would be a statement maker for the Streaks, who would put down 15 kills against just one error in rolling to a 25-11 win. JCU would close out the match with a 25-16 win in the fourth set.

MaryEileen Dalton (Chicago, IL, St. Ignatius Prep) had 16 kills,Laura Sudo (Pittsburgh, PA, North Allegheny) added 14 and Kerry Fox (Western Springs, IL, Lyons Township) contributed 11 as JCU had its best hitting day in terms of percentage (.327) since posting a season-best mark of .382 against Sewanee on Sept. 12.

John Carroll improved to 11-15 overall and 3-4 in the OAC while Wilmington slipped to 1-16 overall and 0-7 in league action.

On July 15, 2000, Brian Unk became the first John Carroll graduate to win an event on the Canadian Professional Golf Tour, capturing the $125,000 Eagle Creek Classic, played at the par-72, 7,067-yard Eagle Creek Golf Club in Ottawa, Ontario.
