Despite the presence of the last John Carroll team to beat Mount Union, the Blue Streaks were unable to "stir the echoes" in a 56-7 loss to the Purple Raiders Saturday at Don Shula Stadium.

Box Score

With the 1989 OAC Championship team from John Carroll looking on, the visiting Purple Raiders scored touchdowns on each of its first four possessions and rolled up 513 yards of total offense in handing John Carroll its 20th consecutive loss in the series dating back to 1992.

John Carroll scored its lone touchdown off of Mount Union's lone miscue of the contest. Trailing by 42 points midway through the third quarter, the Blue Streaks seized upon a bad shotgun snap that sailed deep into Mount Union territory and was recovered by Ken Bevington at the 11-yard line.

Four plays later, Jeff Javorek punched in a touchdown from one yard out. Brad Marchese added the extra point to cut the deficit to 42-7.

The Purple Raiders would tack on touchdowns late in the third quarter and early in the fourth to complete the victory.

Mount Union (8-0, 7-0 OAC), which is now in position to claim an outright league title with a win at home next week over Otterbein, was paced by an exceptional passing day by quarterback Kurt Rocco. He was 26-32 for 359 yards and four touchdowns. Torrance Morring added 101 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

John Carroll (3-5, 3-4 OAC) was paced by Scottie Williams on offense, as he hauled in seven receptions for 65 yards. Javorek and Mike Locke were a combined 12-29 for 112 yards.

Jon Cooley led all players with ten tackles.
