10 44 487 11.1 Senior wide receiver Frank Ross (Canfield, OH, Canfield) and junior punter Karl Roshong (Canton, OH, Perry) were both named 2009 All-Ohio Athletic Conference Football first team, headlining a list of seven Blue Streaks named to the annual postseason honor roll.
Ross had a record-year for the Blue Streaks, setting both the single game, single season and career records for receptions during the 2009 campaign. His 69 receptions broke the school record of 65 set by John Clark in 2001, and his 163 career catches broke the record of 148 set by Jeff lerner from 1999-2002. Ross, who led the OAC with 6.9 receptions per game during the regular season, had a JCU record 17 catches against Capital.
Roshong replaced an all-conference punter this season, and become one himself thanks to a league-leading 40.4 average. In 2009, Roshong attempted 45 punts for 1818 yards, dropping 13 of those inside the 20-yard line. None of his punts were returned for a touchdown, and he had none blocked. His efforts helped the Blue Streaks lead the OAC and finish sixth in the nation in net punting (36.0 ypp).
Also named to the All-OAC squad as second team selections were senior defensive end Ken Bevington (Mentor, OH, Middlefield Cardinal), senior defensive back Joe Cigas (Brooklyn Heights, OH, Cleveland Benedictine) and freshman placekicker Bradley Marchese (Columbus, OH, Saint Charles Prep).
Bevington returned to the field in 2009 after missing almost all of 2008 due to an injury, and once again was a dominant force as a pass rusher. He finished tied for first and among the top 50 of Division III with nine sacks. He ended the year with 52 tackles, 13 of which were behind the line of scrimmage. in 42 career games with John Carroll, Bevington had 175 tackles, of which 265. were sacks totalling 123 yards
Cigas led the Blue Streaks and was tied for fourth in the OAC with four interceptions. He also had six pass break-ups to go along with 58 tackles, which was fifth best amongst the Blue Streaks. In 37 career games with John Carroll, Cigas had 189 tackles and six interceptions.
Marchese took over as the team placekicker in week two, and became one of the top kickers in all of Division III. He was 11-12 in field goals, making all six of his attempts from beyond 30 yards. He finished first in the OAC and eighth in Division IIi with 1.22 field goals made per game. he led JCU with 53 points scored.
Named honorable mention All-OAC were senior wide receiver Scottie Williams (Kent, OH, Kent Theodore Roosevelt) and senior linebacker Jim Gilchrist. Williams played in all 10 games and made 44 catches for 487 yards and four touchdowns. Jim Gilchrist (Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) was John Carroll's leading tackler in 2009, making 81 stops.
