JCU Continues Tough Road

The Blue Streaks headed out on the road again this past weekend losing to ECC 6-3. While the Blue Streaks were able to generate some better offense than in past weeks the effort still fell short in the final minutes of play. After falling behind 2-0 less than 3 minutes into the game, the Streaks shook off the bus legs and stormed back. A power play goal by Junior Nick Morici got JCU on the board and a four on four tally for Senior Zack Skook tied the game early in the second period.

"We didn't get off to a good start, but we battled back. We haven't been able to battle back in previous weeks," stated Skook.

A power play goal in the second gave ECC another lead heading into the third. JCU came out flying the the third and dominated the play for the first ten minutes. Head Coach Chris Wilk was impressed with the start of the third. "I haven't seen us take over a part of the game like that all season. We completely dominated that portion of the game." Unfortunately the Streaks could only get one goal,  from Senior Jeff Priskey, during that stretch. Another power play goal for ECC at the 7 minute mark gave them the lead. A counter attack couldn't be made by the Blue Streaks as late penalties made for a lack luster ending to a good contest and resulted in 2 more PP goals for ECC.

Coach Wilk was positive about the loss. "We have played much better the past two weeks. We're starting to compete on a regular basis. We need to capitalize more when we get things rolling and try to slow down our opponents when they get momentum. That's been the difference the last two weeks. That's the difference between winning the last two and losing the last two."

On a positive note for the Streaks Junior Nick Morici's goal gives him 13 on the season and keeps him on the Top 15 in the country in scoring.

JCU finally stops at home on Saturday to take on league rival Pitt at 8:10pm and travels to Duquesne on Saturday for a matinee 3:30pm game.
