JCU Hockey Wins SUNY Canton Tournament

It was a long time between victories but the Blue Streaks put together their best two performances of the season in Canton, NY to win two in a row and the Terry Martin Invitational Tournament. The Streaks were lead by Senior Zach Skook and Junior Nick Morici on the weekend and JCU finally generated some offense. Skook was good for three goals on the weekend, including the overtime winner versus the host SUNY Canton.

Skook was up beat after the wins. "We've been working hard the past few weeks, trying to focus on one shift at a time. We've been playing better and were finally able to put together 60 minutes."

After the OT win versus Canton the Streaks rolled into the match-up with Cornell with a bit of confidence. It showed, as an early deficit didn't bother the Streaks. After falling 0-2 to start the game the Streaks put up 8 unanswered goals to roll to the most dominating victory in Head Coach Chris Wilk's five seasons with the Streaks. Morici lead the onslaught with a natural hattrick and 5 points. Sophomore Dan Geiger added 2 goals and 2 assists and Senior James Stanley added a goal and 3 assists.

Coach Wilk was very pleased with the overall play and especially with the Morici/Geiger/Stanley line. "We were very solid in every aspect of the game. Goaltending, special teams, D-zone and offensively. It was by far one of our best performances of the year. The green line (Morici/Geiger/Stanley) was a force."

JCU looks to continue the win streaks at the Blizzard in Buffalo Tournament this weekend, opening Friday versus Scranton at 5:30pm.

The Streaks are home Friday December 11th versus ECC at 8:10pm.
