The John Carroll Men's Lacrosse team opened play in their new league with two big wins on their spring break trip to Chicago over DePaul University and the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire.
The Blue Streaks were bolstered by the return of senior goalie Aaron Syguda who sat out the scrimmage against Kent State with an ankle sprain. Syguda made 15 saves as the Blue Streaks were able to hold on for the 10 – 9 win over DePaul. Offensively, JCU was led by freshman Frank Kinmonth with three goals and an assist. Sophomore Pat Durkin, who also missed the Kent State game, chipped in two goals. Attackmen Harry Steinwald and Josh Tatro each chipped in a goal and two assists. Also scoring for JCU were freshman Kevin Barker, sophomore Christian Cirillo and senior Patrick Bloomstine.
In the second game of the day, Syguda again came up big with 17 saves in a much more comfortable 13 – 5 win over UW-Eau Claire. This time Tatro led the way offensively with four goals and six assists. Durkin scored three more goals, while Barker and sophomore Charlie Rizzo each scored two goals. Also scoring for JCU were Steinwald and Kinmonth.
The highlight of the game was undoubtedly sophomore defender Evan Sander’s half field pass for the assist on Kinmonth’s goal. Credit also goes to sophomore Miguel Lopez who carefully planned out most of the John Carroll goals on the day. His selfless effort in crafting goals for others shows the true heart of a team player and reflects the Jesuit ideal of being a man for others.
