The John Carroll men's track & field team primed for the upcoming Ohio Athletic Conference championships with a strong effort Saturday at the unscored Sparky Adams Invitational hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.
The Blue Streaks had a well rounded day as they turned in a number of top eight efforts ranging from sprints, distances, relays and field events.
In the 100-meter dash, Kasey Schwing finished fourth in the finals with a time of 11.21 and Raj Arasu placed sixth in 11.37. In the preliminaries, Schwing placed second in a time of 11.03.
Schwing also posted a third-place finish in the 200 dash (22.35).
In the 400 hurdles, David Hickey continued his strong spring by finishing as the runner-up. His time was 53.52.
Jeff Sigmund finished eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:48.84.
JCU's two relays both had strong showings. Arasu, Schwing, Tony Mihalich and Matt Mihalich finished fifth in the 4 x 100 with a time of 42.74. Schwing led off a sixth-place 4 x 400 relay that featured Hickey, Arasu and Tony Mihalich. they completed the race in 3:29.54.
In the field events, Mike Hlatky was the runner-up in the high jump, clearing 1.92 meters (6-3 1/2).
RK Glover was fourth in the long jump, posting a mark of 6.44 meters (21-1 1/2).
Steven Borowy was a top eight finisher twice, placing third in the javelin and eighth in the discus. Borowy had a mark of 41.12 meters in the javelin, and 47.16 meters in the discus.
