In two previous trips to the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament, the John Carroll softball team has gone two and out.
The Blue Streaks are hoping the third time is the charm as the 2009 league tournament gets underway.
After splitting their regular season finale with the Marietta College Pioneers, the Blue Streaks women’s softball team locked up a spot in the OAC tournament for the second consecutive year, this time earning the #2 seed.
Coach Erin Brooks Kingsbury’s team, ranked as high as #14 in the country at one point in the season, will take on third-seeded Mount Union College on Friday (May 1st) at 11:00 a.m. in Ada, Ohio. Ohio Northern University, the conference’s top-seed, will host the two-day tournament.

The Blue Streaks and Purple Raiders met back on April 1 in University Heights with John Carroll sweeping the doubleheader. Freshman pitcher Brittany Danilov got the win in both games, combing for 14 2/3 scoreless innings on the day.
Danilov, who finished the year 19-5 with an ERA of 1.42, figures to see tons of action in the pitching circle this weekend. She will look for run support from centerfielder Julie Marlowe and senior catcher Jamie Smrdel.
Marlowe has been giving teams headaches as of late, raising her batting average to .382. When she gets on base, she forces teams to pitch to Smrdel, which, as suggested by her 34 walks in 117 plate appearances, is something they aren’t lining up to do.
If John Carroll can get past Mount Union, they will take on the winner of Ohio Northern and Muskingum College at 3 p.m. on Friday.
The schedule is as follows:
Day One - May 1
Game 1: #2 John Carroll (13-5 )vs. #3 Mount Union (12-6), 11a.m.
Game 2: #4 Muskingum (11-7) at #1 Ohio Northern (14-2 w/two OAC games remaining),1p.m.
