Relays And Sprints Help Lead JCU To Third Place Showing At Malone University Hazen Open

Two champion relays and several point scoring efforts in the sprint events helped carry John Carroll to a third place showing at the Malone University Jack Hazen Open, held Saturday afternoon in North Canton, Ohio.
The host school won the title with 170 points, with Mount Union next in line with 138 points. John Carroll tallied 117 points to finish third, while Walsh (109) and SUNY-Buffalo (80) closed out the top five in the 12-team field.
John Carroll captured both the 4 x 100 relay and the 4 x 400 relay. In the shorter event, the quartet of Raj Arasu, Tony Mihalich, Matt Mihalich and Kasey Schwing won the race in a time of 43.34.
In the 4 x 400 race, Nick Hallal, David Hickey, Tony Mihalich and Aaron Sharp combined to win in a time of 3:31.47.
Hickey was a two-time winner Saturday, as he placed first in the 400 hurdles with a time of 55.49.
Several Blue Streaks posted runner-up finishes at the Hazen Open. Schwing was second in both the 100-meter dash (11.39) and the 200-meter dash (23.06). Also placing second was Mike Hlatky in the high jump, clearing 1.83 meters.
A number of Blue Streaks placed among the top five in their respective events. Matt Szep was fourth in the 110 hurdles (18.75), Arasu was fourth in the 100-meter dash (11.81), Matt Mihalich was fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.86), and Lou Galiano was fourth in the shot put (13.15 meters).
RK Glover had a pair of fourth place finishes in the long jump (5.99 meters) and triple jump (12.05 meters), while Kyle Fiegel was fifth in the same two events (5.95 meters in the long jump, 11.97 meters in the triple jump).
