Over the past decade, no one has been as important to John Carroll Rowing as Chris Maeder.  He rowed for four years (1999-2003) then coached for six years, including the last four years as head coach.  As a rower his greatest accomplishments were winning the novice 4+ at MACRAs as a freshman and beating Marietta in the sprint event at WV Governor's Cup as a senior.  Chris was also elected team captain and treasurer his senior year and helped coordinate fundraising efforts for the men’s varsity eight boat.

As a coach, Chris’ fondest memory was when his men's lightweight 4+ finished 3rd at the Head of the Elk in 2005.  He enjoyed developing the leadership skills of the team members and the officer board and showing the rowers the benefits of hard work.

Since graduating from JCU, Coach Maeder has earned his MBA from Cleveland State University, passed the CPA exam, and earned the Certified Healthcare Finance Professional designation from the Healthcare Financial Management Association.  He hopes to use these credentials to advance his career at University Hospitals.  Currently, he is planning his wedding next summer and hoping to spend more time with his fiancée, Lauren.

Thank you, Coach Maeder, for the wonderful and inspirational work you did for the John Carroll University Rowing Team.  You will truly be missed!
