John Carroll had never before competed on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, but after the success enjoyed Saturday at the Don Cathcart Invitational may want to make this an annual venture.

Division II East Stroudsburg University claimed first place with 21 points, followed by Wilmington University (DE) with 66 and the host Salisbury University with 69. The top five was rounded out by Virginia Wesleyan University (98) and John Carroll (170). 

Final Results

Jacob Smith (New Richmond, OH, Covington Latin) led the Streaks for the fourth time this year, placing 23rd with a time of 26:45. Likewise Jeff Sigmund (Streetsboro, OH, Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit) was the second JCU runner across for the fourth week in a row, clocking in at 27:33 and placing 41st.

Senior Michael Joseph (Euclid, OH, Gilmour Academy) (27:45) was third across for the Blue Streaks, taking 47th place, while freshman teammate Pat Burns (Solon, OH, Solon ) was 48th with a time of 27:49.

Unk Conquers Eagle Creek
On July 15, 2000, Brian Unk became the first John Carroll graduate to win an event on the Canadian Professional Golf Tour, capturing the $125,000 Eagle Creek Classic, played at the par-72, 7,067-yard Eagle Creek Golf Club in Ottawa, Ontario.
