John Carroll opened the 2009-2010 campaign with a victory over Syracuse University on Friday, September 25th, with a 3 – 2 score. Senior Goaltender Nick Fabrizio (Chicago, IL) stopped 41 shots in a solid outing. "Nick was very solid for us tonight. He had a few big saves for us that allowed us to seal the win", Head Coach Christian Wilk said.
Saturday the Blue Streaks gave up a three goal lead and fell to the Orangemen 7-6. Sophomore transfer John Walter (Amherst, NY, Erie Community College) recorded a hat-trick and Junior forward Nick Morici (Chicago, IL, Loyola Academy) had three points on the night. "Our offense began to click and we were able to put up some points", stated Coach Wilk. "Walter had a great all around game."
The Streaks are still working out the kinks with a new game plan this season, but the team seems positive with the overall play and the effort this weekend. Senior Captain James Stanley (Buffalo, NY, Williamsville South H.S) stated, "The energy was there all weekend. If we can be a bit more disciplined in our own end, we should have a pretty successful season."
John Carroll continues the road swing this Friday at #14 ranked Kent State at 7:15pm. Saturday at 4:30pm the Streaks take on Adrian College at the Battle of Ohio in Wooster. Tickets are still available for both games.
