Smith And Sigmund Lead Blue Streaks To Fifth Place Effort In Season Opening Meet

Sophomores Jacob Smith (New Richmond, OH, Covington Latin) and Jeff Sigmund (Streetsboro, OH, Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit) both finished among the top 20 individuals Saturday at the 2009 Bill Sudeck Invitational, helping John Carroll finish fifth of six teams in the 8,000-metr race held at Valleevue Farm in Hunting Valley, Ohio.

Final Results

John Carroll tallied 11 points to place fifth, with Case Reserve claiming the title by scoring 25 points.

Smith was the top Blue Streak with a time of 27:39.66, good for 13th place overall. Sigmund was close behind, crossing the line in 19th place with a mark of 28:17.61.

Freshman Pat Burns (Solon, OH, Solon ) was the third JCU runner to jaunt over the finish line, placing 38th in his collegiate debut with a time of 29:15.19.
