Placewinners Round Slows Blue Streak Wrestling At Willson Invitational

A promising day one had John carroll thinking big, but the reality of day two set in for the John Carroll as the Blue Streaks met their proverbial "Waterloo" in the placewinners round at the Pete Willson Invitational held at Wheaton College.

Senior Ben Adams was the lone Blue Streak to place for JCU as he wound up fifth at 184 pounds to help John Carroll to finish 19th out of 30 teams in the final team standings.
Seeded third, Adams reached the semifinal round but lost to second seeded Lucas haag of Division II Wisconsin-Parkside. He defeated Heidelberg's Ed Bizorik, 4-0, in the fifth place match.
Oh, but what could have been.
At the conclusion of the first day of competition, JCu had seven wrestlers still alive in the bracket and stood in 11th place -- ahead of conference foes such as Ohio Northern and Mount Union. Adams was still in the championship hunt and six others were in consolation matches.
But one by one, the Streaks fell on Saturday morning. Greg Stolfer, in his first tournament as the starting 125-pounder for the Blue Streaks, fell to the sixth seed in his weight class to finish 2-2.
David Malkus was unseeded, and went 3-2 at 141 pounds, falling to the #6 and #8 seeds.
Connor Suba went 2-2 at 149 pounds, winning his two matches by fall and dropping is two matches by a combined eight points to wrestlers that finished fourth and eighth.
Jim Nemunaitis at 197 and Alec Barker at 285 each went 2-2 in their respective weight classes as well.
