Second Day Rally Nets JCU Men's Golf Third Place At Wooster Nye Invitational

Jeff Deal posted his third top 12 finish of the spring with his sixth place showing at the Wooster Invitational

A week after winning the grueling Ohio Athletic Conference regular season crown, John Carroll showed it had some gas left in the tank with a second day rally that resulted in a third place finish at the College of Wooster Nye Invitational Saturday.

Results

In the two-day tournament which was held at the Wooster Country Club Friday and Saturday, John Carroll carded a total of 624 strokes. After a Friday round of 316 that had the Blue Streaks end up in a three-way tie for fourth, JCU improved to a 308 on day two to gain sole possession of third.

NAIA power Malone won the title with a team score of 597, followed by Baldwin-Wallace (607) and John Carroll (624).

Leading the way was Jeff Deal (Willoughby, OH, Willoughby South), whose two-day tally of 149 earn him a tie for sixth place. Blake Furgerson (Concord, OH, Lakewood St. Edward) also place in the top ten, carding a 151 to earn a solo ninth place finish.

Joe Zucker (Cleveland,OH, St. Ignatius) rebounded from a tough first round to finish in a tie for 20th with a score of 158.

The third place finish marks John Carroll's eighth top three showing of the season out of the eight tournaments the Blue Streaks have entered. JCU has only finished out of the top three one time in the last two years covering 17 events, with the lone exception a fourth place tie at the 2009 Denison Spring Invitational.
