Minjock Becomes First Blue Streak To Earn OAC Field Athlete Of The Week Accolades In 2010

Mike Minjock jumped to a school record, a national provisional qualifying mark and conference athlete of the week honors

John Carroll freshman Mike Minjock (Seven Hills, OH, St. Ignatius) jumped into the record books while at the same time gaining conference and national prominence.

With his efforts on Saturday, Minjock was named Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week.

Minjock finished first in the men's long jump at the Sparky Adams Invitational with a distance of 7.24 meters (23-9). That mark earned him a school record, shattering the previous record of 22-8 set by Luke Baum 24 years ago.

Additionally, the jump is the third best by a Division III athlete this season. He nearly missed the automatic NCAA qualifying standard of 7.30.

Minjock is the first John Carroll track & field athlete to win the weekly conference award this season.
