Last year, John Carroll captured the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season title but could not translate that into a tournament title and therefore did not advance to the NCAA Championships.
The Blue Streaks are hoping the 2010 script has a different ending.
The 2010 OAC Men's Golf Championships will take place this weekend at Tannenhauf Golf Club. John Carroll will tee off at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 30, with its tee time on Saturday, May 1 to be determined by the results of Friday's round. The teams that finish in fourth through ninth place will tee off at 10:00 a.m. and the top three teams will follow at 10:40 a.m.
After winning the regular season trophy, the Blue Streaks hope to be more than just competitive at the championship.
Blake Furgerson (Concord, OH, Lakewood St. Edward) currently leads the OAC with the top stroke average at 72.8.
Joe Zucker (Cleveland,OH, St. Ignatius),
Jeff Deal (Willoughby, OH, Willoughby South) and
A.J. Spalding (Stow, OH, Cuya. Falls Walsh Jesuit) are also ranked in the top-15 OAC stroke averages with 76.8, 77 and 77.7, respectively.
The winner of the 2010 OAC Men's Golf Championship will claim an automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship that will be May 11-14 at the Hershey Links and Hershey Country Club in Hershey, PA.
Furgerson qualified as an individual last year but hopes to be part of a team effort this season. JCU is looking for its first NCAA bid since 1997.
