JCU Earns Coaching Staff Of The Year Award, Places Six On 2010 All-OAC Softball Team

Brittany Danilov earned first team All-OAC accolades for the second conscutive season
John Carroll's postseason run in softball may have ended with the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament championship, but awards season has started off strong with six players and the coaching staff reaping honors.

Sophomores Brittany Danilov and Olivia Mathews were named first team All-OAC in 2010. Selected as a utility player, Danilov earned first team honors for the second consecutive year. As a pitcher, she went 6-3 in conference with an ERA of 2.55. As a batter, she hit at a .347 clip and collected five doubles, two home runs, nine RBI and a team best .571 slugging percentage.

Mathews was tabbed to the first team as well, a step up from honorable mention status in 2009. In 16 league games, Mathews hit .320 with a team-high 14 RBI. She tallied four doubles, one triple and one home run among her 16 hits.

Three Blue Streaks were chosen for the All-OAC second team. Freshman catcher Mackenzie Griffin made quite an impression by batting a team-best .477 in 16 OAC contests. She scored 11 runs and totalled 21 hits as part of a .540 on base percentage.

Sophomore Michelle Murphy was a second-team pick in 2010 as she was second among Blue Streaks with a batting average of .372 in league play. She scored a team-high 12 runs against conference competition, and posted 16 hits and seven RBI.

Senior Samantha Thompson -- like fellow second teamers Murphy and Griffin -- is a first time All-OAC selection. In her final campaign as a Blue Streak, she hit a robust .347 with 17 hits and seven RBI. She also picked up four wins as a pitcher.

Earning honorable mention All-OAC is senior Julie Marlowe. Also a 2009 All-OAC pick (second team), Marlowe batted .275 this season over the course of the league schedule and crossed home plate eight times.

Head coach Erin Brooks and assistant coach Kim Tackett were the recipient of the OAC Coaching Staff of the Year award -- sharing the accolades with the staff from Ohio Northern. Brooks and Tackett guided JCU to a 26-15 record overall, a 10-6 mark in the OAC and the program's first league tournament championship in 2010.
