JCU Softball sported special jerseys for the "Teaming Up To Beat Breast Cancer" event back on April 28
Long after the scores simply become numbers on a page, the deeper impact of the softball doubleheader between John Carroll University and Heidelberg University will be what they two teams did for the fight against breast cancer.
John Carroll and Heidelberg were both involved in a "Teaming Up To Beat Breast Cancer" event for a Susan G. Komen fundraiser back on April 28, 2010, and the collective efforts of the two squads resulted in over $3,000 being raised.
Spearheaded by John Carroll coaches Erin Brooks and Kim Tackett and Heidelberg head coach Betsy Hada, the two softball programs created a number of opportunities both before the game and during the actual twinbill to raise both money and awareness.
Among the more creative aspects of the fundraising drive was how fans could donate a dollar for every hit or strikeout.
The total amount raised amounted to $3,066, which was being presented today to the Susan G. Komen For The Cure.
