The Dad Vail Regatta, the largest intercollegiate regatta in the world, was held on May 7-8 in Philadelphia. Two John Carroll University fours were entered to represent the team. The women's team was in the Division 2/3 Varsity Four and the men were in the Open Varsity Four. The women, featuring Kayla Salamone, Jill Kaiser, Genna Losinski, Lauren Penkala and coxswain Kate Schaefer, did not advance to the semi finals. The women struggled at the start and never recovered as all crews in the field held them off. This was senior Jill Kaiser's last race, but the other women in the boat will be returning next season.
The Open Men's Four event had over 50 entries and was the largest event at the regatta. JCU's Anthony Miano, Matt Knestrick, Miles Nevin, Devin Eicher and coxswain Clay Morgan also did not qualify but gave their completion a great race. The men bolted out into second place just behind Drexel University at the start and at the 500 meter mark, were tied at second with Catholic University. Through the 1000 meter mark, the Catholic University men walked through JCU, and Lehigh pulled next to the Blue Streak boat and eventually made a move in front, pushing JCU into forth. In the last 500 meters, the Blue Steaks went stroke for stroke with Northwestern University but fell short, finishing 5th and not qualifying for the semi finals. All five men return next season.
