Upper Weight Victories Not Enough For Blue Streaks To Overcome Cleveland State

| By:
Bryan Steinmetz won a 4-3 decision against the Vikings at 184

Despite taking three straight decisions in the upper weights, the John Carroll University wrestling team could not upstage the Cleveland State Vikings, falling 29-9 in the dual meet at the Wolstein Center.

The Blue Streaks started the night slow, losing six straight matches, including two by pinfall and one by major decision.  A bright spot during that stretch came courtesy of freshman Terner Gott, who gave Cleveland State's Corey Carlo all he could handle before losing a tight 14-12 decision at 157.

In the 174-pound class, sophomore Todd Gaydosh got the ball rolling for the Blue & Gold, downing the Vikings' Aric Thurn, 8-3.

Junior Bryan Steinmetz followed up Gaydosh's triumph with one of his own, a 4-3 decision over Corbin Boone at 184 pounds.  Not to be outdone, senior 197-pounder Jim Nemunaitis defeated Nick Anthony of Cleveland State by a 6-4 margin.

The loss runs John Carroll's dual meet record to 1-1 on the young season.  The Blue Streaks will be in action next at the Rochester Institute of Techonology (RIT) Invitational on December 3, 2011.
