Mapes has participated in the steeplechase at outdoor nationals in each of her first two collegiate seasons
As a competitor at her second national outdoor track & field meet in as many years, JCU sophomore
Emily Mapes placed ninth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase on Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse's Roger Harring Stadium.
Final Results
Mapes crossed the finish line in 10:49.12 to finish in the Top 10 for the second straight season. To reach the steeplechase finals, she posted a 10:42.69 in Thursday's preliminaries.
Her teammate on the men's side, Mike Minjock, placed second overall in Thursday's long jump competition (7.61 meters).
Also an accomplished cross country runner for the Blue Streaks, Mapes ran a 10:51.85 to place eighth and earn All-America distinction at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Claremont, California.
