The John Carroll University wrestling team does not shy away from scheduling tough competition.
 
The Blue Streaks continued their long-standing tradition of facing Division I Cleveland State University on Tuesday night inside the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.
 
John Carroll fought valiantly against the Vikings with two Blue Streaks emerging victorious. Cleveland State took the dual 39-9.
 
Thomas McNulty scored the first victory recording a pin at 2:39. The sophomore fell behind early with Cleveland State's Chas Busz scoring an early takedown. The 157-pounder recovered scoring an escape to start his comeback. He would land a takedown and logged a 3-nearfall before securing the pin.
 
The pin was McNulty's fifth of the year.
 
Matthew Tusick earned a 12-5 decision at 174 pounds. Tusick came out aggressive securing a takedown nine seconds into the match. Tusick immediately transitioned looking for a pin and scored a 3-nearfall five seconds later. The senior added a second takedown in the first period to build a 7-2 advantage into the second frame.
 
The Bay Village, Ohio native was active in the third period scoring two escapes, a takedown and the riding bonus to secure the win.
 
Todd Gaydosh was in the hunt at 197 pounds. The senior dropped a tight 3-1 decision. Starting the third period on top, Gaydosh chose to let Kanez Omar escape with 31 seconds remaining in the frame to try to secure a match-tying takedown. The North Royalton, Ohio native had two chances but Omar was able to ward off both attempts.
 
John Carroll will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 6 at the RIT Invitational.
