JCU Women Place Fourth At Regionals To Set Up Possible Bid For Nationals

John Carroll now plays the waiting game.

But it was a great way to get to the waiting room.

Fueled by a tremendous effort at the Ohio Athletic Conference championships two weeks ago, the Blue Streaks turned in another bravado effort Saturday at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional in Holland, Michigan.

With all seven runners in the top 100, John Carroll topped all Ohio Athletic Conference schools and finished fourth overall out of 31 teams.

Complete Results

The top two schools (Calvin and Allegheny) earned automatic bids into the NCAA Division III Championships, while the next three teams -- Hope, John Carroll and Otterbein -- now have to wait to see if the selection committee sees fit to invite them.

Calvin (90) edged Allegheny (120) and Hope (128) for the title. John Carroll (167) edged Otterbein (169) -- the same team it tied at the OAC championships -- for fourth.

Individually, JCU had three runners earn all-region. Erin Kiley finished 22nd in 22:34.1, Schasia Modryzynski was 24th in 22:42.1 and Becky Rohwer was 25th in 22:44.2.

Cassi Schillero led the next wave, as she placed 45th in 23:06.0, Lauren Gornik was 51st in 23:10.9.

Finishing inside the top 100 were Jamie Amoroso in 66th (23:35.7) and Christine Smith in 97th (24:11.0)

John Carroll will learn its fate Sunday with the NCAA Division III selection show scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
