In a weekend full of competition, the John Carroll University wrestling team took the first step in the right direction.

The Blue Streaks topped the Washington & Lee Generals, 27-16, on Friday evening in Lexington, Va.

The night started with an opening match win by freshman
Dom Devine at 125 pounds. Devine took the match by an 11-6 decision, and the Blue Streaks jumped out to a 9-0 lead after claiming a forfeit win in the 133-pound division.

The winning ways continued as
Austin Victor earned a 7-3 decision win at the 141-pound division.
Â
The first loss of the contest for JCU came at 149 pounds as
Shane Ging fell in an 11-10 nail-biter.
Danny Novak fell in the following match, 5-2, in the 157-pound division.
Blake Dixon also took a loss, 14-2, at 165 pounds.

Sophomore
Jimmy Suhayda brought the momentum back to JCU with a 3-1 win at 174 pounds, giving the Blue Streaks a 15-10 lead more than midway through the contest.

Christian Hipsher tacked on a second-period pin at 184 pounds to extend the Blue Streak lead to 21-10.

JCU then took a forfeit win at 197 pounds, and Washington & Lee followed by taking a forfeit win at 285 pounds.

The Blue Streaks will be back in action tomorrow morning, as they will compete in the Jim Crytzer Invitational at Washington & Lee University. The one-day tournament will begin at 9:00 a.m.
