Schweickert Field is the home of the John Carroll University baseball team. Built in 1992 in conjunction with Bracken Field, the facility bears the name of Dr. Jerry Schweickert '60.
In 2024, Schweickert Field received a massive upgrade with beautiful new turf.Â
Few names carry more weight in JCU Athletics than Schweickert. He first made his mark as a football star, and voted into the JCU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1968. Schweickert's success continued as head football coach from 1965-76, compiling a 56-41-4 (.574) record. In 1973, he founded the JCU Baseball program. As head coach from 1973-76 and 1979-1995, Schweickert accrued 278 victories and 8 Presidents Athletic Conference Championships. Under his leadership, the program made its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1984. Schweickert earned PAC Coach of the Year honors in 1988 and 1989 and the Ohio Athletic Conference Coach of the Year award in 1992. He also served as JCU's athletic director from 1981-86.Â
Located between Bracken Field and Don Shula Stadium at Wasmer Field, Schweickert Field is a homey facility. The park features a grandstand, home and visitor dugouts, a scoreboard, a press box, and an underground sprinkler system. The facility also hosts batting cages and a bullpen, as well locker rooms, a weight-training facility and coaches offices.
The friendly confines of Schweickert Field have seen plenty of JCU Baseball success, including a 2014 and 2023 teams that captured OAC Championships and earned berths to the NCAA Tournament.
